DO YOU WANT TO SUCCEED?

In June, I asked my graduating historians to give some words of wisdom to their successors. Here are a few tidbits of advice from last year's students.

In order to succeed in 8th Grade American History ...

  • Get involved in the topics, it can be really interesting
  • Actually read the readings even if you don’t have to answer questions about them, it will make class make sense
  • Ask questions.
  • Pick an NHD topic you love
  • Seems quite basic, but all you need to do is the homework, do it with quality, and don’t rush through it. If you do this you will be able to participate in class and you will do well on tests.
  • Always, always, always, always, always, always have your notebook up to date!!!!
  • Being Taft Peach Jolly Ranchers!
  • Keep stuff away from Taft or he might throw it into the snow
  • Online review sessions are very helpful
  • Finish a study guide for a test a couple days before you actually take it.
  • Try to really understand the hw, because it WILL show up on a test!
  • You need to make sure you participate a lot
  • LEARN TO LOVE AMERICAN HISTORY. IT RULES!
  • Do not have excuses (they are like butts, everyone has one and they all stink)
  • Have fun with the jokes and other things like popping pimples, being placed in love triangles or being nagged for saying something a lot.
  • Learn to love everything about Mr. Schwieters
  • Always go in/watch the test review sessions
  • Watch extra credit movies.
  • Try to consult Mr. Taft whenever you're confused about something. He's always willing to help! Keep your notebook organized. You're never going to get anywhere without it.
  • Always be honest on rubrics. It won't help to lie to yourself.
  • Watch behind you... ninja Taft might be coming
  • Don't call the Lincoln and Washington "Action Figures" dolls.,
  • Don't say "like".
  • Have fun!
  • Work on NHD a lot on the weekend in the beginning.
  • Get your sources early for NHD.
  • Do all the work even if there is no way he can check it.
  • Work on projects before they are due.
  • Use Mr. Taft's website.
  • Be willing to go all out during simulations.
  • Make sure you have watched Toy Story, Star Wars and Indiana Jones.
  • Don't make bets with Taft he will ALWAYS win!
  • Be prepared, participate, and have a positive attitude in every class.
  • Have fun never forget.... AMERICAN HISTORY RULES!!!
  • Never be scared or nervous to ask Mr. Taft questions about things that you don't understand.
  • Review homework for 5 min after you finish it.
  • Treat each assignment like it’s your last
  • Class is actually fun so look forward to his class!
  • History homework takes a while, don't procrastinate, just get it done
  • Make sure you carry a poster that says "American History Rules!" in your pocket. There are plenty places in Milwaukee alone that you can take pictures
